    孔子生前已经在社会上享有盛名，随着子孙的繁衍与生徒的传承，孔子的许多遗迹得到很好的保护。从汉武帝“罢黜百家、独尊儒术”开始，孔子思想成为国家的指导思想，在崇德报功传统的影响下，孔子遗迹得到精心保护。为满足纪念和祭祀的需要，历代又陆续兴建了众多纪念物。
