    孟子的家世，很难查到可靠的史料。后人称鲁公族孟孙氏为他的祖先，仅是猜测。关于孟子父母，《孟子》书中有“后丧逾前丧”的记载，即孟子办理母亲的丧事较办理父亲的丧事隆重。孟子名轲，生卒年月不可详知。仅能从七篇中推测其生活的大体年代。孟子是战国中期邹国人，后世公认。
