中华人民共和国成立后,直至1991年冠县电信交换设备才逐步更新。原来使用的磁石式交换机,用户挂发港澳和国际长途电话,需要等上一天甚至几天的时间,非常不方便。所以该项业务量一直微乎其微,甚至历年统计资料里面亦未加统计,直至1993年才见统计资料。
