    山东省研究生教育开展较早。1993年后，全省8所高校通过国家组织的学位授权审核新增为博士学位授予单位，17所高校新增为硕士学位授予单位，新增一批博士和硕士授权学科、专业，带动了山东省研究生教育的迅速发展。1996年，经国务院批准，山东省政府成立学位委员会，开展学士学位授予、硕士学位授权点评估，以及博士、硕士、学士学位论文评选等工作，推动了全省研究生教育质量的提高和创新体系建设。至2005年，全省有本专科专业点4440个，硕士学位授权学科、专业总数1478个，博士学位授权学科、专业总数350个。
