　　1996年，山东省的邮电统计工作实行统计年报和定期报表制度。邮电统计年报是反映全省年度内发展情况的综合数据资料，是各级部门进行决策和制订各项计划的主要依据。年报数据具有量大、面广、时间要求紧的特点。1999年山东电信分营后，各电信企业根据统计工作相关规定，建立了新的统计指标体系，严格执行通信企业指标体系规范，利用技术管理手段开展统计工作。
