    20世纪80年代中后期，粮食生产迅速发展。为解决出现的“卖粮难”“储粮难”等问题，山东省开始加快粮库建设步伐。90年代后，特别是在中央和地方粮食储备体系的建立过程中，中央和地方分别投入大量的资金，全省建成并投入使用一大批具有机械通风、环流熏蒸、粮情测控等功能的现代化粮库。
