    1949—1998年，中国人民银行在山东省的派出机构为人民银行山东省分行，负责山东省金融事业的领导和管理工作。1998年12月，人民银行济南分行成立，作为总行的派出机构，在山东、河南两省履行中央银行职能。2003年，修改后的《中华人民共和国中国人民银行法》（简称《中国人民银行法》）将中国人民银行的职责调整概括为三个方面，即制定和实施货币政策、维护金融稳定、提供金融服务。
    2003年4月，中国银行业监督管理委员会成立。10月，分支机构在山东省建立。
