    山东省淡水水域受年度降水影响较大，特别是南四湖水量波动大，时有干湖现象发生，再加上环境污染，使水域渔业资源极不稳定，总捕捞量高低不等。1986年，南四湖（微山县）捕捞总产量20058吨。1986年后，由于持续干旱，南四湖进入干旱期，捕捞产量随之下降，1989年，下降至5845吨。1993年后，南四湖水位逐渐恢复，捕捞产量开始回升。
    20世纪90年代后，随着渔业资源保护意识的增强，有关渔业资源保护措施和法规相继出台实施，2002年，省政府颁布《山东省渔业资源保护办法》，其后又制定一系列渔业资源保护法规，全省淡水捕捞产量得以逐年提高，2002年为7.88万吨，2003年为10.07万吨，2005年为12.28万吨。主要捕捞鱼类为鲫鱼、鲤鱼、黄颡、鲶鱼、乌鳢、餐条类、鲌类、鳊类等。
