    1996年3月11日17时， 潍坊邮电“全球通”数字移动电话开通。该设备是从
瑞典爱立信公司引进的具有世界先进水平的数字移动通信系统(GSM) 。该系统第
一期工程在潍坊城区、 寿光市、青州市、临朐县、高密市建5个基站。二期工程
于6月底在全市各县市区开通，在潍坊市局安装数字移动电话交换机1台，扩建12
个基站，新增容量9000户，并建成全市GSM数字移动电话网。“GSM”的开通将为
潍坊经济的腾飞作出贡献。
