1997年， 蓬莱市总人口为48.86万人， 其中非农业人口6.64万人，  农业人口
42.22万人。 在总人口中， 男性24.54万人，女性24.32万人，分别占50.23％和
49.77％。平均每平方公里分布人口404.76人。当年人口出生率为9.21‰、自然
增长率1.70‰。有满、回、朝鲜、蒙、壮、苗、彝、藏、水、黎、畲、土家
等12个少数民族，共143人，其余均为汉族。
