2001年3月，烟台艺术学校经过国家教委评估审核，被批准为国家级重点中专。该校
经山东省教育厅批准，自2001年起开办初中起点、五年一贯制专科。年内招收美术、
群众文化艺术2个专业150人。专科班的开办，是加快职业教育改革与发展的一项重要
举措。在由中国戏剧家协会主办的2001年凯达杯“中国少儿戏曲小梅花荟萃”活动评
比中，烟台艺校王菲表演的《玉堂春》获“中国少儿戏曲小梅花”金花称号，魏楚、
徐建勤表演的《坐宫》获得“中国少儿戏曲小梅花”银花称号。
