2020年，全市新认定科技型中小企业903家，高新技术企业达到707家。深化“两城一谷”建设，3家孵化载体升级为国家级众创空间，新增1家国家企业技术中心、17家省级工程实验室（工程研究中心）。新建院士工作站10家，推动山东生物发酵产业研究院等4个共建平台落地。淄博产业技术研究院（山东产业技术研究院淄博分院）揭牌成立，山东省先进陶瓷创新创业共同体获批建设。氢燃料电池质子交换膜等重大创新成果实现量产。全市研发经费占地区生产总值的2.91%。
