历史上淄博市矿产资源比较丰富，全市发现矿产50种（含亚矿种），已探明储量的28种（含亚矿种）。其中，能源矿产4种，金属矿产6种，非金属矿产15种，水气矿产3种。铁、石灰岩、耐火黏土等矿产在全省具有明显优势。受成矿地质条件的制约，主要矿产资源在空间分布上呈现明显的区域性特点。油气资源分布在北部（为胜利油田的一部分）；铁矿集中蕴藏在中部（金岭铁矿区）及东南端（韩旺铁矿区）；煤、耐火黏土、铝土矿及部分重要非金属矿产分布在中部及南部地区；矿泉水主要分布在淄川区、沂源县。
