    1970年前，各村庄内外的坑塘能积蓄部分雨水，农民利用简易提水工具，浇灌坑塘附近的菜园和粮田。1970年后，一些村队引、抽河水入坑塘，农民开始利用机械动力提水灌溉。1980年后，政府提倡发展坑塘养殖和种植业。大部分坑塘承包给农户，用以养鱼、植藕，坑塘的灌溉作用随之降低。
    农民利用坑塘蓄水及家庭压水井，采取肩挑、人抬、车拉的办法，在抗旱点种中也发挥着一定的作用。
