    单县由于巨厚的第四系覆盖，除东部个别地点外，基岩均在500米以下，故基岩的固体矿产发现不多。
    单县第三系、第四系沉积层深厚，有丰富的生油物质，第三系岩层为粘土岩、粉砂岩夹石灰岩、砾岩，既有良好的空隙度和渗透性，又有渗透性差、油气不易外逸的坚硬顶盖和底板，便于油气在储油层中运动、聚集。在地质构造上，虽无背斜构造，但有纵横断层，有良好的储油构造。
