    城区的护城河、涞河、东沙河里的水遭到不同程度的污染。造纸厂、酒厂、有机化工厂将大量污水排放到河里。有的水质遭到严重破坏，城区水域中的水生物基本绝迹。水色变黑，散发出浓厚的硫化氢气体。1985年，酒厂污水悬浮物超标准10倍，化学耗氧量超标准180倍，氨氮超标准40倍。造纸厂的化学耗氧量超标准40倍，悬浮物超标准10倍，有机化工厂悬浮物超标准100倍，1982年对自来水水井的水样试验，地下水含钙、氟均偏高。
    大气状况，城区上空空气浑浊度日剧增加。
