    清代县署设皂、快、壮三班，共46人，是知县掌握的武装，分掌护卫、缉捕、站堂。遇有社会秩序混乱，县署也招募兵员。1900年，为了弹压民教纠纷和境内练拳活动，县署“捐廉”招募马步兵50名。
