    清末，县署由知县主理政务，行使一切权力。辅佐职官县丞、主薄，掌管署事；典史，主办刑狱；教谕、训导，管理学业；医学训科，负责医药疫情；阴阳学训术，主掌天文占卜；僧道会司，办理僧尼、道众事务；吏房负责官佐和杂员的升迁、调补；户房负责户口和地亩；礼房负责祭祀和庙宇；兵房负责军事和驿站；刑房负责司法和刑事；工房负责建筑；皂、快、壮班分管社会治安、护卫、缉捕、值班站堂等。
