    曹县城内，唐代建有佛寺，并具有相当规模。明代佛寺已遍及全县，清代更盛。
明清两代均设有管理佛教事务、发放度牒的僧会司官。清代，全县有大小佛寺70余处
，县城西北春墓岗的开元寺规模尤为宏大。1919年，全县佛寺有18处。建国后，僧尼
还俗。
