    1990年第四次人口普查显示，临沭县大专以上学历1799人，占总人口的0.36%；高中、中专学历29850人，占总人口的5.93%；初中学历120233人，占总人口的23.90%；小学文化的220211人，占总人口的43.77%；不识字或识字很少的131033人，占总人口的26.04%。
    2000年第五次人口普查显示，全县大专以上学历10268人，占总人口的1.86%；高中、中专学历47493人，占总人口的8.61%；初中学历185066人，占总人口的33.56%；小学文化的183922人，占总人口的33.36%；扫盲班和未上过学的124657人(其中上过扫盲班的9322人)，占总人口的22.61%。
