    1939年12月，南沂蒙联防办事处成立时，全县约12.4万户，58.3万口人。后因境域调整，面积变化，全县人口也随之增减。1949年底，总户数101041户，总人口447670人(男218015人，女229655人)。1989年，全县总户数225271户，总人口835304人(男429817人，女405487人)。四十年间共增加人口387634人，增长了0.87倍。城镇非农业人口由1949年的2052人，增加到1989年的42463人，增长了19.7倍。
