    建国前，费县穷苦人民过着“半年糠菜半年粮”的生活，饥寒交迫，缺医少药，人口平均寿命为36.20岁。建国以后，人民生活水平普遍提高，医疗条件有很大改进，1982年人口普查测算，费县人口平均寿命为70.92岁（男69.77，女72.06），比建国前提高34.72岁。60岁以上老人（最高者105岁）共有60489人，占总人口的7.77%。其中90岁至100岁以上的老人255人（男69人，女186人），女性高寿者占高寿老人总数的72.94%，男性高寿者占高寿老人总数的27.06%。
