    革命战争年代和建国初期，实行志愿兵役制。抗日战争时期，费县各根据地青壮年有3470人为抗日救国踊跃参军；解放战争时期，有4000多名青年自愿参军；建国后，有1994人参军。1984年10月1日施行新《兵役法》，根据部队需要和本人自愿，部分义务兵改为志愿兵。
