    1956年，全县人口密度每平方公里262人。随着人口的不断增长，人口密度逐年增加。1964年,每平方公里317人。1982年,每平方公里446人。1988年,每平方公里472人,比1956年增加210人,增长80.2%。1988年,全县26个乡(镇)平均每平方公里超过500人的有7个,400人以上的有12个,400人以下的有7个。人口密度最高的平邑镇，每平方公里933人；最低的是魏刘庄乡,每平方公里258人。
