    1957年7月，建成县被服厂，有工人17名。主要产品有中山服、国防服、女军装，后逐渐生产西装。1976年，城郊公社投资22万元，建成服装加工厂，有职工60人，年加工服装3万件。1977年后，旧寨、桃墟、联城、野店、坡里、坦埠、垛庄乡（镇）先后办起服装加工厂，但因管理不善，效益低下，大都停业。此间，个体缝纫业发展较快。到1987年，有县办被服厂1个，乡（旧寨）办服装加工厂1个，缝纫专业户83个，共投入劳力274人，加工成衣8万余件，纯收入7万元。其中县被服厂有职工56人，有固定资产净值10.2万元，完成产值53万元，实现税金1.9万元，亏损3.7万元。
