    1911年（清宣统三年），蒙阴县境以县城为中心，正西22.5公里至南鲍村连新泰县，南20公里抵蒙山接费县，正北80公里至鲁山连博山县，西北50公里接莱芜县，东30公里至坦埠连沂水县。南北长84.75公里，东西宽52.1公里。全境总面积2463.5平方公里。
    自1939年开始，根据抗日战争形势的需要，在中国共产党领导下对蒙阴县与周围邻县的境域进行过多次调整，面积减少。至1987年末，全县面积1601.6平方公里。最大纵距65.4公里，最大横距45.8公里。
