    清末，兵役实行招募制。届时，县设招兵处，新兵条件是18～25岁的男性，身体健康，五官端正。被招募者绝大多数为生活所迫。可长期服役。
    民国初期，军阀割据，招兵无定制。1930年后，国民党政府按地亩多少、户丁人数摊派兵员，强行抽丁入伍，有钱者可买丁充役。
    抗日战争时期，在日伪统治区，伪军和土匪直接到村抓兵。青壮年为避兵役，到处躲藏，不敢回家，有的甚至断肢残臂，忍痛自伤。
