    解放前，有两种育苗方式：一播种。槐树，将槐种混合麻种播进肥沃土地；泡桐，选土层深厚的高地播种；花椒，春暖时，将埋藏地下的种子取出，选向阳处播种。二扦插。选肥地翻耕筑床，浇透水，然后扦插。1934年，县有苗圃两处，共40.7亩。有柏、榆、松、柳、梨、槐、椿、桑、杜、柘、胡桃、枣等15种苗木，约10万株。
    解放后，群众坚持自采种、自育苗、自栽培的方法，建国营广平、博平东关两处苗圃，占地30亩，年均产杨、榆、柏、刺槐苗3万余株。1954年，建国营博平西关苗圃77亩，年产苗6.5万株。1959年，建国营田庄苗圃131亩，年产苗40万株。1950～1960年，全县共采树种8.56万公斤，育苗8577亩，成苗2200余万株。1970年为适应平原绿化要求，公社、大队、生产队以1%的良田育苗。1973年，县扩建国营王老苗圃2007亩。1974年，全县社、队有林场、苗圃79处，2.46万亩，年平均育苗0.6万亩，出苗800万株。1985年，育苗面积1.415万亩。
