    建国前，莘县基本上是单一的农业经济，工业总产值仅占全县社会总产值的1.5%左右。建国后，莘县的工业，由零星的以家庭经营为主的手工业，逐步发展为行业较全、初具规模、全民、集体、乡镇及个体并重发展的现代工业；由1949年的29名职工、年工业总产值不足59万元（按1980年不变价），到1987的26707名职工（全民和集体所有制）、年工业总产值16211万元（按1980年不变价）。
