    “庄稼一支花，全靠肥当家”，农民历来重视肥料。建国前及建国初期，农田肥料全部为农家肥。1956年后，开始施用化学肥料。1987年，全县施用化学肥料3万多吨。80年代，农家肥求质求量，结合化肥的科学施用，培肥地力，促进农业优质高产稳产。1987年，全县粮食单产266公斤，比1978年222.5公斤增43.5公斤；皮棉单产60公斤，比1978年19公斤增41公斤。土壤层养分含量达到有机质0.77%、全氮0.066%、碱解氮35ppm、速效磷6.8ppm、速效钾163ppm。
