    1956年以前，市内无专门档案机构，各部门的文件资料由各部门保管。1956年6月和1957年9月，市委、市人委分别建立档案室。1959年10月建立临清市档案馆，受市委、市人委双重领导。1962年机构调整时，市档案馆撤销，档案工作归市委办公室。1963年5月成立临清县档案管理科，同年恢复档案馆。1966年“文化大革命”开始不久，档案馆被撤销。1980年3月成立档案局，同时恢复档案馆。1984年9月将档案局改为档案科。1985年12月恢复档案局。
