    1946年（民国35年）8月，临邑县公安局建立的同时，治安股设专人负责消防。1975年10月设有消防股，现改称消防科；县府于同年建“安全委员会”。安全委员会和消防科主要负责火灾预防和消防的监督工作。1982年，实施《十项标准监督分级管理》以后，公安局消防科专管县直机关、学校、工厂、企业等火灾预防；各派出所设消防监督员，专管农村火灾预防。至1985年，全县有专职消防队1个，消防员28名，消防车2部，义务消防队73个，义务消防员3882名。临盘油田1973年7月建消防中队，有消防战士35名，消防车5部。
