    1953－1966年，全县人口净增率逐年上升。1953年，年平均人口为498699人，出生13194人，死亡8516人净增4678人，年净增率为9.38‰。1956年，全县年平均人口520097人，年出生人口达17887人，死亡7833人，净增10054人，年净增率达19.33‰。1957年净增人口9292人，净增率为17.57‰。1960、1961年人口净增分别为－29111人，-3542人，净增率分别为－61.69‰、－8.1‰。1963、1964年人口净增率分别为30.85‰、29.08‰。1966年，出生人口为20162人，人口净增15629人，净增率为35.59‰，是建国后之最。
