    1950年，中国人民银行平原县支行开设保险业务，主要进行耕牛保险。1951年设保险股，开办企业财产、农村牲畜、棉花及人身保险4种。1952年成立保险公司，保险业务有所扩大。1958年保险公司撤销，业务归并于财税局。1981年县人民银行再设保险股，办理保险业务。1984年恢复保险公司，办理业务有：企业财产、机动车辆、人身、家庭财产、货运、麦场火灾、棉田成本保险7种。1982至1985年，保险费收入108.2万元，同期赔偿支出45.9万元。1985年承保财产价值15882万元，保险费收入46.9万元，发生赔付案件174起，赔偿金额33.2万元。
