    自抗日战争起，县抗日民主政府实行志愿兵役制，兵役年限可长可短，此办法一直延用至建  国后的1954年。十几年来，禹城县广大青年积极响应共产党和人民政府的号召，计有1.1万余人参加人民武装，其中抗日战争时期2000余人，1946年至1954年9000余人(抗美援朝386人)。
