    德州历史悠久，夏、商、周三代，这里即为有鬲氏之国，秦废分封制后置鬲县，至北齐废鬲县，“鬲”字在当地有3000余年之历史。后经隋、唐、宋、元、明、清各代，又先后称广川、长河、将陵、陵州、陵县、德州，民国时称德县，今称德州市。
