    1418年（明永乐十六年）诏天下郡县卫所皆修志，邑之有志始于此。但嘉靖之前，所修志稿多已散失。现能查阅到的德州志书，官修成稿刻印的按修者姓氏区分有何志、唐志、安志、金志、王志、李志；民修成稿刻印的有《德州志略》、《长河志籍考》、《德州新志稿》、《州城余闻》、《州志拟稿》、《德州志稿》、《续德州志略》、《州志迹略》、《州志遗稿》、《德州乡土志》、《乡土志稿》等。各“志”从诸方面记叙了德州不同时期的沿革变化，是极其珍贵的历史文献。
