    建国前，德州市工业以个体手工生产为主，生产规模小，设备简陋，技术水平低。1949年，全市仅有金属制品、砖瓦、棉织、食用油脂、卷烟5个工业部门。
    建国后，经过40余年的建设，工业经济得到迅速发展，初步形成了以国营大中型企业为骨干，以纺织、机械、化工、食品、建材、轻工等几大产业为支柱，13个工业门类的轻型工业体系。
