    清末民初，境内沿袭旧制，多实行一年一作制或二年三作制度。40年代始，麻大湖、小清河流域，一年二作逐步增多。1949年全县一年二作面积占总播种面积的11%，二年三作面积占总播种面积3%，一年一作面积仍占总耕面积的86%。1957年全县农作物播种面积136.64万亩，总复种指数为132.35%，其中粮田复种指数为150.2%，一年二熟面积占粮田54.32%。从1958年至1985年，粮田比重由占总耕地65%增至78%，经济作物比重由34%下降到20%。一年两熟面积上升到74.37%，二年三作面积5%左右，一年一作面积仍占20.63% （主要是棉花）。粮食作物一年二作85.38万亩，二年三作10.65万亩，一年一作15万亩，粮田复种指数为191%，平均耕亩单产417.5万公斤，总产17735.59万公斤，分别比1978年增长14.3%、68.9%。经济作物28.34万亩，棉花仍为一年一作，占80%以上。瓜、菜多一年二作或三、四作，总收入288.35万元，占多种经营收入的25.9%。
