    莒县的水产养殖业，受自然条件限制，发展较慢，在农业总产值中，所占比重极小。建国前只有少数苇、荻、藕、蒲等水生植物栽培；鱼类均为野生，种类虽多，产量甚微。1949年，全县人均仅0.03公斤淡水鱼，食用主要以海鱼为主。建国后，修建水库、塘坝、开挖汪塘、鱼池，使水面达91170亩，可利用养鱼水面55500亩，为发展养殖业提供了条件。
