    2014 年，全县总人口数为 515828 人，比 2013年增加 1462 人。其中男 263280 人，女 252548 人；出生落户 7166 人，出生率 9.24‰；死亡注销 4857人，死亡率 6.3‰；迁入 4265 人，迁出 4971 人；城区人口数 147897 人，人口最多的许孟镇 59249
人，人口最少的五莲山旅游风景区管委 1639 人。 在年龄结构方面，18 岁以下 86954 人，18—35 岁 105224 人，35—60 岁 215236 人，60 岁以上 108414 人。全县汉族人口数 515340 人，少数民族人口数 488 人。少数民族包括 26 个民族，分别为蒙古族 36 人，回族 22 人，藏族 8 人，苗族 22 人，彝族 57，壮族10 人，布依族 11 人，朝鲜族 23 人，满族 156，侗族 1 人，瑶族 6 人，白族 16 人，土家族 9 人，哈尼族 20 人，傣族 3 人，黎族 20 人，傈僳族 16 人， 佤族 27 人，拉祜族 3 人，景颇族 3 人，达翰尔族 5 人， 幺佬族 3 人，撒拉族 1 人，阿昌族 2 人，怒族 7 人，穿青人族 1 人。
