    1990年，五莲县成为省丝绸总公司桑蚕生产重点县，1993年，全县建立县、乡、村三级科技推广服务体系，全县桑园栽植面积最多时达3万多亩，放养蚕种5万余张，收购蚕茧达170余万公斤。五莲县丝绸公司先后被中国丝绸进出口总公司授予“全国蚕茧工作先进单位”，被省丝绸总公司授予“丝绸工作先进单位”荣誉称号。
