       天主教于清光绪二十六年（1900年）传入威海卫。清光绪二十八年（1902年）英籍神父郎炳华到威主持教务，同时在纪念路三角花园西购地建设教堂。1947年10月，国民党军队进攻威海卫后，教徒渐少。至1951年，活动基本停止。20世纪80年代初，活动逐渐恢复。1985年，威海市筹组天主教爱国会。2001年1月27日，威海市天主教爱国会成立。至2010年末，经区有天主教信徒10人。
