    清代末年， 境内始有滩涂贝类养殖。1949年3月，烟台养殖场在乳山建立国营分
场。50年代，全县水产养殖业兴起。60～70年代发展缓慢，80年代后发展较快，水产
品养殖总量占全县水产品总产量的三分之一。1988年后，水产养殖业有了突破性进展，
养殖产量超过捕捞产量，实现了养大于捕的战略转变。进入90年代，实施“海上乳山”
战略，养殖业特别是浅海增养业发展迅猛。1995年，全市水产养殖总产量达14.6万吨，
产值4.8亿元，产量、产值分别占整个渔业比重的65.5％和38.1％。
