    境内古今以汉族人口占绝大多数。清末，只有回族200余户1000余人。1953年有回族2122人，占总人口的0.49%。1964年，汉族人口522747人，占总人口的99.21%，回族、水族、白族共4151人，占总人口的0.79%。1982年，汉族有699718人，占总人口的99.19%，少数民族5699人，占总人口的0.81%。少数民族中，回族5682人，藏族1人，苗族5人，壮族5人，满族3人，水族1人，朝鲜族2人。1982年与1964年比较，少数民族增加1548人，增长37.29%。1985年，各少数民族共6019人，占总人口的0.83%。
