    1980年，邹县始有人工饲养土鳖，饲养方法简便，饲料简单，用工少、繁殖快、经济效益高。1982年，县医药部门收购土鳖157.5公斤，1983年增购到214公斤。1985年后，出现土鳖生产过剩，医药部门停止收购，人工饲养数量随之大减。
    饲养土鳖方法，分缸养和池养。缸、池内置土或软细灰渣，拌少量麸皮、米糠即可。但必须严防逃跑和鼠害。大小需分别喂养，虫卵需专缸孵化。成虫用开水烫死晒干，可作药材售出。
