    清代至建国前夕，县内丧葬习俗变化不大，大多采用土葬。
    建国后，党和政府决定改革旧的殡葬习俗，变土葬为火葬。1971年，泗水县殡葬改革领导小组成立。1973年6月，在泗水城东圣阜岭顶建成火化场。占地5.8亩，建火化间、骨灰堂、殡仪室、停车房以及业务室等，有职工9人。1975～1978年，全县平掉坟头8万个，清理占压土地2万余亩，土葬基本废除，丧事新办，尸体火化，骨灰深埋。1987～1988年，县内火化率达到94.4%。
