    建国初，货运以人力车为主。1952年，县城附近开始出现三五搭伙的运输小组，计有排车47辆，多从事县内短途运输。1959年，县运输公司有营运排车140辆，三轮车4辆，马车2辆。1962年，购置货运汽车1部。1972年，有货运汽车2部，拖拉机7台。翌年，县运输公司组装拖拉机30台，添置汽车18部，排车运输基本停止。1974年12月，济宁汽车运输公司七队驻泗水，有货车57部。1988年，全县载重货车320部，其中个体运输专业户35部；货运拖拉机2300台。年货运量50.7万吨，周转量1155万吨公里。是年，泗水火车站年货运量为7097吨。
