    1982年人口普查时全县共有10个民族，比1964年人口普查时增加6个。汉族人口623716人，占总人口的99.81％；少数民族共1177人，占总人口的0.19％。少数民族人口中，回族1126人，壮族25人，朝鲜族7人，满族7人，蒙古族5人，瑶族2人，白族2人，黎族1人，土族1人，外国人加入中国籍的1人。
    1990年人口普查时全县共有24个民族。汉族702568人，占总人口的99.75％；少数民族共1774人，占总人口的0.25％。少数民族人口中，蒙古族13人，回族1437人，苗族26人，彝族16人，壮族133人，布依族36人，朝鲜族12人，满族43人，土家族12人。10人以下的民族有：藏族、侗族、瑶族、白族、哈尼族、傣族、黎族、傈僳族、水族、纳西族、达翰尔族、仡佬族、普米族、鄂伦春族共46人。
