　　民国以前，境内人口皆为汉族。之后，方有少数民族迁入。1953年，有汉、回、满、蒙4个民族，2个华籍日本人。1964年添一朝鲜族人。1987年，共有汉、满、回、藏、壮、瑶、朝鲜、蒙古、锡泊等9个民族和1名华籍外国人。其中，汉族990880人，占总人口的99.99％；满族35人，回族24人，朝鲜族10人，蒙古族8人，壮族5人，瑶族2人，锡泊族4人，藏族1人，计89人，占0.01％。少数民族人口中，22人分居在乡镇，67人住在市直机关及工、商、卫生、教育等部门；非农业人口占71.91％。
